Aimee was certifed and taught Bradley Method (TM) classes for seven years. She is no longer professionally associated with the Bradley Method, instead teaching based on her experiences and wisdom garnered attending more than 400 births over the past 19 years. Aimee's classes approach childbirth from a holistic perspective, addressing not only practical concerns regarding labor, but the impact of the pregnancy and birth on the mother, baby, and family, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The concept of the birthing family as consumers in the health marketplace is addressed, with discussion regarding the pros and cons of birthing in vs. out of a hospital setting. Classes include discussion of the differences between the midwifery and obstetric models of care, the importance of understanding the normal physiology of labor, and developing a foundational understanding of possible variations from "normal" that will allow a basis for informed consent should any of the these variations arise during the birthing period.
Independent childbirth education classes play an important role in empowering families to have the births they truly desire. Childbirth education classes taught by independent educators can provide unbiased information and an opportunity for sharing wisdom and experiences with other birthing families.
